The original “Garrett TFE731” family of turbofan engines were first introduced in 1972 by Garrett AiResearch. Today, the same engine is known as the Honeywell TFE731 with upwards of 11,000 engines built, reaching records of over a 100 million hours in the air.

A TFE731 Engine Is The Heart Of Many Different Aircraft Types

You can be sure to find a TFE731 turbine engine in anything from smaller planes like a Cessna Citation III, all the way up to powerful jets like the Boeing Skyfox. The “Cessna Citation III” took seven years and 240 million dollars to develop for production. Interestingly enough the very first model was owned by pro golfer, Arnold Palmer. As for the “Boeing Skyfox” it was first produced in 1982 as a twin-engine jet trainer with the possibilities of even later being used for ground attack. Interesting History & Origin For The TFE731

The very first test run for the TFE731 took place in 1970 right on Garrett’s plant in sunny California. As soon as 1972, the first model was already rolling into production and off of the assembly line for new and innovative machines like the Learjet 35/36. About three years later in 1975, the TFE731 was even named “The Aviation Product Of The Year”  by Ziff-Davis Publishing Company.

At its start, the TFE731 was quickly making a name for itself in the Aviation industry and still is today. Aviation and aeronautics have come a very long way since the wright brothers built the first airplane engine in 1903.
